At the Spring 2023 Ohio Hardwood Furniture Market, M.L. Campbell brought today’s leading wood color trends to life in collaboration with Ohio’s foremost furniture craftspeople.
CLEVELAND – May 8, 2023 – Visitors of the Ohio Hardwood Furniture Market March 28-30, 2023, had the opportunity to venture through the Showcase House, a special exhibit curated and sponsored by the wood finishing experts at M.L. Campbell. From soft, marshmallow whites and deep, chocolate browns to bold, stylish hues, the exhibit featured trending finishes highlighting the natural grain and beauty of wood.
“It’s our mission to allow wood to tell its full story, and to enable people to connect with the authenticity and movement of real grain,” said Sherwin-Williams DesignHouse Marketing Manager Ricky McDaniel, who leads a team of stylists in Greensboro, North Carolina, where customers can collaborate with a team of trend experts to provide the best finishes for their wood products. “Every piece of wood is unique; the only perfection on this planet is the imperfection of nature. That is something we’re pushing forward, and it’s something people want to celebrate.”
The Showcase House brought together a wide-ranging collection of craft furniture that represents the forefront of trends in furniture design, artisanship and creativity. The walk-through display featured wood coatings from M.L. Campbell Wood Finishing Systems, displaying diverse pieces from Ohio’s community of builders with color and finishing options that resonate with that resonate with consumers today and into the future.
“People want to make their living spaces a direct reflection of who they are, and personalizing these spaces with bold, contrasting or unexpected colors is a big part of how they’re doing it,” McDaniel added. “Matching is out. Strong architectures can be paired with soft finishes for an appealing contrast. You might pair a strong, dark dining room table with light, bright chairs. A bold kitchen island might provide contrast with natural stools. We’re committed to helping all our customers, no matter who they are, stay proactive and in tune with contemporary desires while pushing the envelope.”
In addition to pushing forward the natural textures and movement of wood, M.L. Campbell sought to create bold color harmony throughout the exhibit — and to help Ohio’s Amish builders demonstrate their commitment to delivering on today’s aesthetic demands. By providing new inspiration, dependable resources and high-quality finishing products, M.L. Campbell is helping this tight-knit community of builders stand shoulder-to-shoulder with today’s global retailers in terms of style and aesthetic appeal.
“The quality of Amish-made furniture speaks for itself, but there is a misconception that it’s all brown — and it doesn’t have to be,” McDaniel said. “We work collaboratively with these builders to highlight today’s color trends. By applying unexpected colors, Amish-made pieces can be fresh and contemporary all while maintaining their timeless appeal.”
In one example, McDaniel noted how organic, barely-there stains that complement the natural look of oak can be paired with stylish hues like Evergreen Fog (SW 9130) and Gale Force (SW 7605) to create intentional color harmony that highlights craft while reflecting contemporary trends and tastes. Meanwhile, a progressive palette of brown hues can harken to traditional artisanship’s roots and history.
